The K-9 Orthopaedic Leg Trolley - A detailed View
The Orthopaedic Leg Trolley is made from electro plated lightweight box section steel with a tubular chrome handle.
It has 4 splayed legs each having a double thrust bearing castor wheel. At the top there is a platform upon which is mounted a plastic coated aluminium shin and knee rest, padded with foam. The unit weights only 6 kilograms and has been tested to carry a weight up to 180
kgs.
It has been clinically tested, has an EC Certificate of Conformity and carries a CE mark.
The user places the knee of the injured leg on the foam padding at the front of the shin/knee rest so that the shin rests on the foam to the rear. After adjustment for height the user walks normally with the un-injured leg and propels the trolley with the knee of the injured leg, at the same time holding the handle of the trolley.
The technique takes about 2 minutes to learn and with practice the user does not even have to hold the handle. The trolley is in effect substitute for the lower leg and foot whilst allowing the upper leg to move normally, thus stimulating a good blood supply which is needed to speed healing.
If crutches are used the injured leg gets no exercise but the leg hangs down just clear of the ground which in some cases can cause inflamation at the injury site, which slows healing.
